Patches for Capcom games Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Street Fighter x Tekken are now Matchmaking from invites improved.

While some companies play it safe with big franchises, Capcom likes to experiment when it comes to its premiere horror series Resident Evil. Part of this experimentation has seen Capcom attempt to create an engaging online multiplayer-focused Resident Evil game, but so far, the company has had little success, with promising games like Operation Raccoon City and Umbrella Corps failing to hit the mark.

Even back in the days of the PS2, when online gaming wasn’t nearly as commonplace as it is now, Capcom was trying to create a successful online multiplayer Resident Evil game. In my opinion, Capcom accomplished its goal with the Resident Evil: Outbreak , which allowed players to connect with each other online to battle the undead and survive the horrors of Raccoon City. Capcom’s idea for Resident Evil: Outbreak and its sequel was right on the money, but the games released at the wrong time.

Had the Outbreak games launched during the seventh generation or later, I’m confident that they would have been more popular, as online console gaming became much more prevalent with the introduction of PS3 and Xbox Outbreak could be revived with a brand new third game in the franchise built from the ground-up to take advantage of current-generation hardware to deliver an even better gameplay experience than its predecessors.

For example, an even larger number of players could play together online, and if the player count was increased, the enemy count could be increased as well. Imagine an online Resident Evil game with thousands of zombies cluttering the screen at once, Dead Rising -style, and that’s what I think a new Outbreak game could be like. The PS2-era Outbreak games had decent visuals for the time, but they both look pretty dated by today’s standards. A third Outbreak game could have much more impressive graphics, which could go a long way in building an effective, tense atmosphere.

This Is What I Want From The Next Multiplayer Resident Evil

Remember Me. This means you can pull all your friends together in a group before you start a game. It’s pretty standard practice.

The game will start off in the underground laboratory where you try to take the G-Virus from Dr. William Birkin which fans of RE2 will recognize. Why was your team asked to tackle the assignment? Where did they come from? Did Slant Six forget to add in an extra cutscene that describes what happens after you make your choice? To be blunt, I commend Slant Six for trying to tie in the scenarios of RE2 and RE3 but the script is way too amateurish and just plain dull.

RE: ORC takes the gameplay mechanics of a standard third-person tactical shooter and places them into the Resident Evil universe. In theory, that sounds like an interesting concept. First off, matchmaking is simple and partnering up with friends is quite easy. All the characters are tailored to having specific traits which is cool, but again, nothing that makes a character stand out over anyone else. Want to change your equipment after readying up? Either sit through the entire level until you beat it and get the chance to change equipment then or quit out of the matchmaking and be re-invited.

No can do. You have to quit the matchmaking and create another lobby just to play another level.

Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City 360 Review

Things of course do not go smoothly, and the team is then directed to cover-up any trace of Umbrella activity. There are some real negatives to the game, so I want to at least point out what I really liked about the game. First things first: the game is pretty fun.

You have an expiration date and even the smallest mistake can bring your inevitable demise even closer. On the opposite end of this is Operation Raccoon City, which rewards you for being reckless and going in guns blazing. It arms you to the teeth with powerful weapons, grenades, and special abilities, and then on top of that your allies excluding AI partners can revive you as soon as you go down. Outbreak pleases the longtime fans who are nostalgic for the old days when puzzles, horror, and atmosphere were all trademarks of the series.

There we go. This could mark the beginning of a revolution for video game titles. That means a lot of puzzles that actually require teamwork to solve. I think the nostalgic romps through locations seen in past entries should stay with this spin-off, primarily because it just felt weird returning to the Raccoon City Police Department with assault rifles and three friends, but also because fans of the series are going to flock to this.

In the first two you could find supplies, like wood planks and a nail gun, and it gave you the choice to use the nail gun as a weapon or to use it to barricade a door. This would open up new possibilities for the characters as well, giving each character another special trait to make them play more uniquely.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City has received a patch, one that addresses issues with the game’s online matchmaking system and AI, as well as various other fixes, according to a post at Capcom Unity. The post didn’t elaborate on how exactly the matchmaking system has been changed, just that “matchmaking from invites” has been improved, as have ally and enemy AI behaviors. More fundamental gameplay changes have also been made: Players can now pick up items while dashing and take cover immediately after a dive, for instance, and “various elements of weaponry, including ammo count, knockdown distance, weapon respawn times” have been changed in undisclosed ways.

Wot I Think: Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Zombies are awesome. As such you would assume that a game like Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City would be a zombie apocalypse wet dream for me, and thankfully it is. Resident Evil II saw Leon and Claire, basically due to their own ineptitude and sense of what is right, trapped in Raccoon city with a population of zombies. On their mini-break from the hub-bub of the working week they happen upon a slew of characters including Sherry.

Sherry is a little brat with a whiny voice that grates my very soul, her father has created for the underground Umbrella Corporation a bio-weapon called the G-Virus. Through the course of Resident Evil II you find out that Sherry is on the search for her father but it turns out a secret ops team were sent by Umbrella Corporation to find him and take away the G-Virus, enter The Wolf Pack stage left.

That means the Resident Evil 3 remake is far from a slavish In the original game, Raccoon City was presented merely as a set of pre-rendered backgrounds. in computer-controlled players, so it has a lobby/matchmaking system, Playing as a survivor requires co-operation with your three team-mates.

The notes, as rounded up by Capcom’s community manager on Capcom Unity :. As for Street Fighter x Tekken, this latest patch is the promised mid-June update, and fixes the game-breaking Rolento bug. This glitch, triggered by the game’s previous update caused a game freeze whenever any knife attack touches a fireball, forcing a restart. Sometimes we include links to online retail stores. About thirty years ago, its founder discovered a tarnished golden lamp somewhere in Osaka, and rubbing it produced a genie. And in Japanese, obviously. You shall bring the world quirky goodness like Dead Rising, and the whimsy of Phoenix Wright. There is a catch! To maintain balance, you must sacrifice this hard-earned goodwill on a regular basis, from placing your DLC upon pressed silver disks against all logic, to using Games For Windows Live for your networking. This is a pure cover-shooter where some of the enemies have tentacles, but most are simply generic zombies or Spec Ops soldiers.

Frustration on the other hand abounds, especially if you try to play on your own. Put simply, there are two ways to play this game — with three other people in multiplayer, or screaming and smashing your controller of choice into tiny fragments of hate-infused dust. Avoid the single-player. Not only is it a tenth as good as the already not great multiplayer, it verges on unplayable at points.
